Design Brief

The 7 Ages of Manchester event took place in 2006 and aimed to educate people about the history and cultural heritage of Manchester through an interactive learning experience, and inspire people to take pride in their own culture and city.

Manchester has played a leading role throughout history in all elements of life, from inventing, to improving conditions for workers.

The 7 Ages of Manchester website needed to reflect the aims of the event, and give interesting facts in the history of Manchester.

To help boost the viral marketing of the site, and to also encouraging children to visit the event, an educational flash game was developed that made the viewer choose the right clothes for each point in time.

Zumm Creative Approach

The website needed to be informative and easy to use for a wide range of people. The main time periods for the event were built into the top header as tabs, making it obvious for a visitor to click and explore the site. We also gave the site a historical feel by using serif typography.

The home page shows iconic buildings of Manchester from different periods, placed together to create a collage and showing the changes side by side. The inner pages use images taken from the previous events held in Manchester giving the visitor an idea of what to expect from the event.
